He is caring and loyal to Ebisu, worrying for his master's safety and health, especially since Ebisu tends to get reincarnated frequently because of his attempts at controlling ayakashi. This only increases when Ebisu is reincarnated and has a habit of wandering around and get lost. While he held a master-servant relationship with Ebisu's previous reincarnation, who cared for Kunimi and saw him as a loyal follower and friend. Kunimi acts like a protective parent rather than a servant to the current incarnation as shown when he clapped and cried tears of joy when Ebisu won best God, acting like how a proud parent would.[3]

Kunimi is strenuously overworked and gets no days off. Because of this, he repeatedly requests vacation time from his master but is usually rebuffed.[4]

Skills & Abilities[]

  • Vessel Transformation: As Ebisu's shinki, Kunimi's vessel name is Hōki ( (ほう) () ). He is a rare, possessor model of shinki. Rather than changing into an animal or object, he takes control of Ebisu's movements.[5]
  • Unarmed Combat: According to Ebisu, Kunimi specializes in bare-handed wrestling techniques.[5] He is skilled enough that he is able to overpower Yato with the help of Tatsumi and Utami, even while Ebisu is in poor condition.[2]

Quotes[]

  • To Yato: "People can't survive alone– that goes for shinki, too. But no shrine would even consider me, just because I already had a name." (Chapter 73)
  • To Yato: "Children always test adults by causing trouble. They want to know how much the adults care. Of course... he saw exactly how I felt about him, too." (Chapter 73)
  • To Yato: "'Why? He can be replaced, so what's the problem?' I had no idea how incredibly brave he had to be... It still makes me sick to think that I ever said that." (Chapter 73)
  • To Yato: "Death doesn't mean the end of the flesh. It's the end of memories." (Chapter 73)

Trivia[]

  • His only job for about 200 years was tying Ebisu's shoelaces.[6]
